The Best Road Trips Around the World

It’s one of my favorite things to do, especially when you are traveling abroad. I have been on many memorable road trips, from Iceland to Africa.

Driving yourself around a country is the best way to truly experience it. It is incredibly liberating and allows you to take in every mile at your own pace.

California Coast Road Trip

The best way to see California is by driving along its coast. To see stunning landscapes, spend two weeks driving from San Diego to wine country.

You will see the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Big Sur’s epic views, Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles, and the Happiest Place on Earth (Disneyland), in Anaheim.

Route 66

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Follow the famous route from Illinois to Santa Monica, passing the World’s Largest Catsup Bottle and the Cadillac Ranch.

Ring Road Iceland

Driving Iceland’s Ring Road was one of my greatest adventures. While riding my horseback, I explored one of my favourite countries and swam in geothermal waters, visited waterfalls, and fell in love Iceland’s natural beauty.

South of France

The Provence and Cote d’Azur Region is home to wine, cheese, and beautiful beaches. I consider it one the most stunning treasures on our planet. You can plan a trip around Saint-Tropez and Cannes, Nice, Marseille, or other luxury resort cities.

Amalfi Coast

It is home to some of the most stunning sights on the west coast of Italy. You can take your time and wind along the coast from Sorrento, Positano, Grotta Dello Smeraldo, Ravello, and finally to Naples. Each stop is worth more than the next.

If you have the time, I recommend stopping between Ravello to Naples so that you can see world-famous Pompeii. Take a ferry to Capri from Naples to finish your tour.

Start your journey in London, and then set your GPS to explore this iconic destination. You should also consider going all the way to Scotland.

Continue north along the coast through Wales, Bristol and Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Inverness, and Manchester. To see it all, travel back down via Edinburgh, Newcastle York, Nottingham and Nottingham.

Namibia is the most beautiful place on Earth. This is a remote area located north of South Africa. It is also one of the least populated in the world.

It was an incredible experience to take a road trip through Namibia. It is possible to spend 10 days in the Namib Desert exploring, photographing wildlife in Etosha Park, and marveling at the immense sand dunes of Sossusvlei.

Garden Route, South Africa

The road runs for 200km (125 mi) from Mossel Bay to Storms River. You’ll have the opportunity to see the wildlife and coastal views that make South Africa such a beautiful country as you travel from the Western Cape towards the Eastern Cape.

To fully explore the Garden Route, a typical tour takes ten days. There will be plenty of time to explore Knysna and George, Port Elizabeth, Cape Agulhas, Cape Town, George and George.

The Great Ocean Road offers a chance to see the best of the Australian sub-tropical life. As you travel along the mountains, oceans, and rainforests, stop to admire the lighthouses, cliffs, and wildlife.

You’ll pass Bells Beach on the way. This famous surfing sport is located in Victoria, 100 km (62 miles) from Melbourne. Great Otway National Park is also worth a stop, with its rugged coastlines, beaches, and mountains.

Last but not least, the Twelve Apostles are a must-see. These iconic limestone cliffs rise above the water as you drive along the Great Ocean Road for four hours.
