Literature Competition 2004
The first Alexander Cordell Literature Festival was run in 2004, and there were 2 categories - the Travel Writing Award, and a School's Prize.

The Travel Writing Award encouraged writers to "capture the areas sense of place" in an original and engaging manner. The winners were:
- 1st - Travels with Pig by John Harrison
- 2nd - "People in Blaenavon aren't like that...." by Jan Seabourne
- 3rd - Land of my Father by Julie McGovan
- 4th - Take the B roads by Brian Smith
The Schools Prize was for the best piece of Historical or Travel writing about Cordell Country, in the spirit of Cordell's sentiment. The winner was Lower Dram Road by Miss R Prime.
